The History

Built in the year 2000, The World of Glass charity has worked hard to bring a beacon of light to the town of St Helens.

The World of Glass Through the years

We believe that our heritage and the traditions of glass are important. The visitor attraction will tell you about the origins of glass thousands of years ago, right up to amazing contemporary pieces made today. You can watch live glass blowing demonstrations and ask questions or admire the hand made pieces on sale in the shop.

Tank House No 9

Built in 1887, The Tank house is where William Windle Pilkington perfected the regenerative process and continuous glass making. It’s the reason The World of Glass stands on this site.
