Aria Kiani 'A Breaking of A Kouze'

Iran and Georgia are two of the oldest wine making regions in the world, connected by the Zagros Mountains.
Some of the earliest discovery of wine comes from the inside of ceramic Kouze’s found in the Zagros Mountains.
Shiraz wine originates from Shiraz, Iran, a rich part of Iranian culture for centuries until 1979.
Today Shirazi grapes are grown in regions such as Australia or the south of France.
Shiraz wine is synonymous with the Iranian diaspora. Just like the grape, we have also been uprooted from Shiraz and grown else ware.
The careful breaking of this Kouze has been a tense act, reflecting the tension of risking infrastructure, stability, and culture for freedom.
At the base of the pillar is the Simurgh, a benevolent creature from Persian mythology that is said to be old enough to have seen the rise and fall of humanity three times, symbolising that our actions now dictate the next chapter of an ongoing history.
